A pensioner has appeared in court charged with concealing a corpse.

Duncan Rattary, 64, of no fixed abode, appeared in Croydon Magistrates' Court after the discovery of a body at a home in Bramley Hill, South Croydon, on Sunday afternoon.

The body is believed to have been in the home for two weeks and a neighbour called in police because of the stench.

A post-mortem is understood to have shown that the man died of natural causes.

Rattary was remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on December 18.

The dead man's identity has not yet been revealed, although his next of kin have been informed.

They are understood to have not yet formally identified the victim as they live abroad.

They are believed to be travelling back to Britain.
