A MAN found collapsed in Selsdon in the early hours of the morning died as the result of a hit and run, police believe.

The man was found in Shepherds Way, in Selsdon, at 6.35am on Thursday morning suffering from serious head and chest injuries.

Police were initially unsure what had caused his injuries but a Scotland Yard spokesman said officers now believe the man, in his 50s, was walking along the road when he may have been struck by a vehicle.

London Ambulance Service sent two crews to the scene and the man was taken to a south London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7.49am.

“Thinking of this poor gentleman's family, not only for their loss but the thought that someone did this - and then just drove away:( Probably wasn't intentional, but they could at the very least have called for an ambulance”
