PADDY McCarthy is hoping last night's win at Watford can kick-start Palace's fight for survival.

The 26-year-old has only just returned from a five month lay-off following shoulder surgery, but was a rock at the heart of the Eagles defence at Vicarage Road.

His outstanding performance in the first half helped keep the rampant home team at bay and laid the foundations for a victory that may turn out to be the most important of the Eagles' season.

The three points breathes fresh life into Palace's flagging fight for survival and, as they head into a crucial Easter weekend, the Irish defender is optimistic the progress can be built upon at Middlesbrough tomorrow.

"We all knew it was massively important, a must win cup final style of game. The result was all that mattered and we got it in the end," he said.

"But we know there is still a lot of hard work to be done and we need to build on that with another result on Saturday.

"We're still in a dog fight, but psychologically this result will be a huge lift. We have got to go to Middlesbrough and try and get a result because as it stands we're still in the bottom three.

"But I'm confident we have enough in our dressing room to get us out of trouble. We've got enough strong characters, enough skill, a bit of everything to get us out of trouble and make sure we stay in this division."

You haven't even the courage to show your own name.”

    “potty peter stone,
how come you are allowed to travel out of northants?
we are not allowed to travel over a 3 mile radius unless we are with a trained carer & travel on the special bus.
potty peter, when you travel to palace games how many care in the community carers come with you & has your special bus got red & blue stripes?.”

“Agreed, he was immense and when both he and Lawrence slid in the box to prevent a cross going over was awesome, they both got up and man hugged each other, sheer passion and determination. Brilliant.”

“Have to say I was really worried for his future when he was sent home before the Forest game. How amazing is he, playing two full games of ninety minutes after such a long absence. He was an absolute rock last night. In Davis's defence, he is great in the air but just wish he wasn't so prone to do something stupid without warning.”
