BOXING: Joe McDonald goes into his professional boxing debut next month looking to extend his perfect ring record.

As an unlicensed boxer, McDonald won all 12 of his fights and that's convinced the 29-year-old middleweight from Croydon to turn professional with the British Boxing Board of Control.

Manager Mickey Helliet hands McDonald his debut in his value-for-money show at the Coronet at Elephant & Castle on Friday, July 6 – and the father-of-three hopes to follow his pal Chas Symonds into title contention.

"I've known Chas for years," said McDonald. "And I will try to entertain the crowd as much as he does."
