As Britain battles through snowy conditions, Young Ahmadi Muslims from across Croydon are on stand-by with salt and snow shovels to help ease any disruption caused.

Ever since the big snow showers of 2010, local members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) have come together to ensure that their neighbours and people driving or walking through their neighbourhoods do so safely.

Around 15 members of the Croydon branch of the AMYA, based out of Croydon Mosque on St. James' Road, set off from their early morning prayers on Saturday to clear important public areas in Croydon. The young volunteers cleared snow from the pathways leading to the entrances of Croydon University Hospital's A&E wing and the area surrounding the Holy Saviour Church.

Vicar Xavier Soosainayagan, from Holy Saviour Church, said:

"They are wonderful people who have the conscience of public property and make sure of peoples' safety to the hospital or to places of worship. God bless them always. We love you."

This is the latest initiative of the AMYA's year long campaign to help those in need and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for a number of UK charities.  In the last month alone, local AMYA members held a blood donation session, fed the homeless on Christmas day, cleared the litter from the centre of Croydon on new year's morning and worked with Save the Children to raise donations at Morrisons Supermarkets.

Mubarak Shams, Regional Youth Leader of AMYA Croydon, said:

''This year marks the 100 year centenary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom and we take great joy in the fact that we have been running these kinds of initiatives since our arrival in this great country.

''The Prophet Muhammad was sent as a Mercy for the whole of mankind and so we try to seek every opportunity to help others. Anyone in need of help during these hazardous conditions can count on our support.''

Eric, an employee at Croydon University Hospital who assisted the volunteers as to where the snow was proving most problematic, said:

"This is great.  I wish my boss was here to see this."

In March the Croydon branch of AMYA will holding a community football tournament to further enhance understanding and friendship between the multitude of communities in the borough.

“Sorry I stated "We are all law abiding citizens...". Incredibly unspohisticated of me and completely untrue. I and the vast majority of Muslims I should have said.”

“I respect your comment relating to comparitive religion, ultimately as a Muslim I do feel that Islam is the true religion.

Subsequently I will try to refer more to Mirza Ghulams persecution and Takfir of Muslims. I thought it perfectly apt to quote Mirza's comments as they related directly to the article whereby the Ahmadiyya cleared snow from a church. I thought it relevant to quote the Ahmadiyya's position relating to Jesus, Christians and Priests as espoused by your Prophet Mr. Mirza.”

“... I respect any act of charity from any community and would usually as you mentioned either ignore and personally approve or comment positively. However as you have stated this is a press release from a community who claims to be a Muslim sect following many of the principles of the Hanafi school of jurisprudence. This is completely separate from your act of charity and should be challenged. The Ahmadiyya community follow many of the actions of Muslims but by following a new prophet you have created a new religion with you own interpretation. You wish to cast aspersions on the character of Muslims and constantly quote that you are law abiding citizens, as if Muslims are not.
Recent official videos from your community attributed a mentally ill womans killing of her child in some way related to the fact that you are following the right path and Muslims are not. This shameless use of a mentally ill woman to promote Ahmadiyya and somehow connect her actions with Muslims in general is blatant falsehood. No Muslim would accept such a thing.

We are all law abiding citizens

It was stated by your prophet that denying his prophethood takes a person outside Islam. I am simply stating that by adding a prophet Muslims globally regard the Ahmadiyya outside of Islam. This is a simple reciprocation and not a persecution.

The biggest charity ultimately is your own. All members of your community even those on benefits pay a fee for membership which funds activities such as your blogging now. They are issued a membership number. This is in order to keep track of members of your community so you can continue to fund your activities. You have raised money for a number of charities. The question is if you love all and hate none why have you not contributed to Muslim charities? I'm not suggesting we should only give to Muslim charities but why have you selected only others for your attention?

What about Muslim Aid or Islamic Relief? Have your activities done anything to promote them?

Your claim of not seeking public recognition for your activities is unfounded. A simple search on the internet reveals a plethora of advertisements or press releases and photo opportunities in various locations, relating to your recent activities. As the press spokes person you cannot deny this with any integrity intact.”

“@AMYA_Press. Thank you for providing an official response from the Ahmadiyya Community. Do you have any other particular forum which you feel would be more appropriate as you don't appear to accept public debates with Muslims. Can I confirm that you would like to discuss this in a public debate in another location? Many statements can be ambiguous and taken out of context. They can be used by people to create division amongst communities. The reality is that the statements of Mirza Ghulam were unambiguous and targeted. If Mirza Ghulam was an errant speaker then we could perhaps cast it aside as such. However he is the prophet of Ahmadiyya and your belief is that he is divinely inspired. Therefore measuring his foul language (swearing and cursing) against the example of Jesus he will always be shown to be lacking.

    1. When you say misquoted are you implying that the quotation is incorrect? Can you provide a link to an official translation of Roohani Qazaain into English that conflicts with this, we can compare it with the Urdu if you like to make sure it's authentic. Mirza referred to Jesus as consorting with a prostitute as well do you deny this?

    2. Rational argument is certainly one thing insults and curses are another. Mirza Ghulams books include much of the latter. Islam gives the right to follow whichever religion you choose this is correct. Shovelling snow is very helpful and no doubt I accept that charity is very much respected in Islam.

However when we look at the words of Mirza Ghulam regarding the people you are trying to "Help" we can see he had nothing but contempt and hatred for them. It seems perfectly sensible and rational to point this out in the spirit of debate. It seemes perfectly acceptable that as you are stating you are Muslim that the worlds Muslims Sunni, Shi, Salafi and Sufi who often disagree on other areas unanimously do not accept you as a Muslim sect or group. This is not because of persecution or hatred it is simply that Islamic doctrine has categorically rejected the possibility of any kind of prophethood in over 100 Ayats of the Quran and over 200 hadith. By claiming a new prophet in the early 1800's this belief even during the life of the Prophet Muhammad took people outside of the fold of Islam. So today of course this is the same.

I once quoted a hadith in Sahih Muslim relating to the finality of prophethood that a senior member of your community and a descendent of Mirza Ghulam had never heard of.”

“@Abdullah Why you chose this platform to attack another Muslim group rather than simply add something positive or saying nothing at all is beyond me.

    1. You have completely misquoted the founder of our Community who not only held Jesus(pbuh) to be a Prophet sent by God, as all Muslims do, but also felt that he himself shared in many of the noble and exemplary characteristics of the Prophet Jesus(pbuh) in his own character.

    2. You attribute hatred to the founder of our Community. To disagree with another belief system, and present rational argument in support of one's disagreement, is simply difference of opinion and not hatred. To associate a partner with God or disbelieve in God is something which any Muslim would find disagreeable. Where our Community differs with many other Muslim groups, however, is that we limit our disagreements to words and rational argument, whereas other groups quite wrongly feel that they can forcibly remove the rights of ordinary citizens to freedom of faith and conscience. Islam demands that there is no compulsion in religion and so we very firmly respect the right of all to believe whatever they choose.

    3. The purpose of issuing a press release is to make known to the wider Community that we are here, living in Croydon, and eager to help our local Community wherever there is a need. We hope that in making this known, members of the local Community will seek our assistance whenever they want. This is clearly demonstrated above where you will notice that we issued the PR before any snow. This was to let people know that when it does come, they can turn to us for help. Over the past week our members have been involved in carrying out a whole multitude of charitable and Community work for which we sought no media attention. Nevertheless, we certainly thank 'This if Croydon Today' for this wonderful platform.

I apologise to any neutral person reading this. To you I would simply say that our members are out in the Community every single day and we would love to assist any local Community initiatives as we have been doing for decades. Let us know if we can help.”

“cont....Also I should really mention that The Prophet of the Ahmadiyya, Mirza Ghulam Ahmed said regarding Muslims "Whosoever does not believe in our victory that it will clearly mean they wish to be a expletive "person born out of wedlock". Anwarul Islam, Roohani Qazain vol.9 page 31.
The Ahmadiyya believe that they are the true Muslims and that anyone who does not accept Mirza Ghulam as a Prophet is a disbeliever.

However they really can shovel snow, so despite their founder spreading hatred in the above quotations they are adapt at spreading salt and grit. So credit where credit is due. Well done for shovelling snow. We applaud your media motivated snow shovelling exercise - :-)”

“That's wonderful how sweet of them to do such a thing.

I'm not sure which part of this message was objected too if someone can point this out if it's deleted again i'd really appreciate it. Is anything incorrect?

Muhammad was sent as a mercy to mankind and its nice to see that the Ahmadiyya although not accepted as Muslims and following beliefs which take them outside of the fold of Islam (following a prophet after Muhammad the final messenger etc...) are inspired by the Islamic faith enough to follow in charitable deeds.

    A few points though:

    1. The Ahmadiyya prophet said terrible things about Jesus and Christians in his most famous sequence of books Rohaani Khazain Vol. 11 page 291 he mentioned "He (Jesus Christ) had nothing but deception and deceit and it was a pity the idiotic Christians took him as God". He also said in Anjame Athame Roohani Khazain Vol.11 Page 9 "Exceptionally wicked and evil people are born in the Christian nation". Regarding Christian Priests he wrote "So their is no doubt that the priests of this era are anti-Christs and liars" from his Noorul Haq Rohaani Qazain Vol. 8 page 82.

    2. When the press officer contacts local newspapers for every "Good deed" the community does then surely this degrades the act of charity.

Note: Muslims do not believe Jesus was a liar, whereas the Ahmadiyya community do. Muslims believe that Jesus was a sinless Prophet of God.

To anyone who responds why is a Muslim saying not in my name for a charitable act this is not the case. I accept the Ahmadiyya faith is one "inspired" by Islam

To any claim that my comments persecute the Ahmadiyya community. This is not the case I have merely revealed the truth about the Ahmadiyya beliefs, from their own books, which some in the community are keeping from being translated from Urdu.

"Love for All Hatred for None?"
Judge for yourself...the Ahmadiyya Prophet Mirza Ghulam (He is not accepted by Muslims who believe that no prophet after Muhammad SAW would come in any guise. This belief has been held by Muslims from Muhammad's SAW announcement of Prophethood to the present day) did not stop with Christians he said many terrible and appalling things about people of other religions including Sikhs, Hindu's and Muslims.

Also I should really mention that The Ahmadiyya of the Ahmadiyya, Mirza Ghulam”

“In my posting which has been deleted I made reference to the sayings of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed and his criticism of Sikhs, Hindu's, Christians especially Jesus and Muslims. These comments have been removed as the Ahmadiyya do not wish both their own people and others to know the reality of the hatred espoused by their Prophet Mirza Ghulam.

I am going to edit any comments made by myself and repost them as they are direct quotations from Roohani Qazaain the magnus opus of Mirza Ghulam, they can't really be criticised by the Ahmadiyya themselves or anyone else. Surely?! :-)”

“Being Peaceful and law abiding is a requirement of all Muslims and humanity in general it is not an exclusivity of the Ahmadiyya or any other group or entity. In fact I don't understand why you make reference to it. Surely it is a given and doesn't need to be stated. So why do you feel the need to state it?

The editor/poster of this article is Ahmadi it is a community posting.

As you are a registered business in the UK, who's members pay fees it should be called an advertisement because that's what it is.

True actions speak louder than words. I posted the links separately from my comments as I knew the Ahmadiyya Community wouldn't be able to resist disliking my comments simply because they were from me. Was anything in my comment incorrect, are other people shovelling snow bad deeds and yours good?

My links were to Muslims doing charitable work which you have disliked despite criticising me for questioning your intentions.

This is the reality of your hypocrisy.

The same Ahmadiyya supporting other Ahmadiyya comments. Lol

I think clearly I have evidenced from your teachings that the spreader of hatred is the Ahmadiyya Prophet. I certainly didn't make such hate filled comments.

Do you deny that the quotations from Mirza Ghulam are correct?

Don't worry Lafantastica the Ahmadiyya Prophet Mirza debated with Atheists too and reserved a special hatred for them. I accept what your saying though. Make Hay not War :-)

Community spirit is lacking it needs a revival - but if the BNP were shovelling snow outside a mosque you might question their actions. From just a few quotations of many you can see that the extremist words of Mirza Ghulam the Ahmadiyya Prophet are not in line with their poker smiles.”

“Well done to the muslim youths, you're showing exactly how muslims are to practise their faith. Credit to the editor for covering this story.

It's disappointing to see from some individuals rather that supporting such initiatives they've only sought to find holes and talk about differences.

We need people who spread peace in this world not bring about hate – there is already enough of those here.”
