"LOVING, sharing and caring" has kept one happy couple together for six decades of wedded bliss.

Lovebirds Allan and Gladys Regelous yesterday celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family - including some who have jetted halfway across the world to celebrate the couple's happy day.

The pair, who live in Milne Park East in New Addington, saw in 60 happy years on Thursday and have said the secret to staying together, is being together.

Allan, 83, said: "We are together all of the time, everyone always says it. They always say, 'There goes Allan and Gladys', it is quite nice really.

"We are best friends and have been since we started together. My wife is lovely caring person, that's one of the reasons I love her."

The happy couple met and fell in love after they first clapped eyes on each other at a dance in Thornton Heath at the age of 20 in 1949.

They married three years later at St Andrews Roman Catholic Church and have stayed in Croydon ever since.

Gladys, also 83, said: "We have always been around here. We were in Waddon when the Blitz started so had to move. Me and Allan have been in New Addington since 1959."

But that is not the only place they have stayed together. The couple, who have a passion for travelling, have enjoyed stints in America and Canada.

Allan said: "My sister Brenda lives in Canada with her husband Dave and has flown over for the anniversary. Once all four of us decided to go travelling, we like to keep active.

"We spent five months touring Canada and then two months camping around America. It was good, we really did have a lovely time together."

The couple, who have three sons Allan, Barry and Paul, spent their special day yesterday surrounded by friends and family before a meal in the Coombe Lodge.

They will then spend tomorrow at a party with 200 other friends at the ACA.

Allan said: "We got the community centre because we have a lot of friends where we have been here so long.

"It will be good to spend it with everyone we know and Gladys and I still go dancing together so I am sure we will be showing that off."
