New Addington's most dedicated smoker is celebrating her 102nd birthday with a big bash.

Beatrice Langley has been enjoying cigarettes since the age of eight, and when she reached the big 100 she vowed not to quit.

She has enjoyed over 168,000 fags in her lifetime but has yet to feel any ill effects from her habit.

To celebrate the pensioner's birthday on August 27, her nursing home in Frylands Court, Hutchingsons Road, has organised a garden party to take place on Sunday.

But Ms Langley said turning another year older wasn't something she was looking forward to.

She added: "All I want to do is wind back time, but I know the lunch will be nice."

Manager Ken Easton paid tribute to the care home's oldest resident.

He said: "Beatrice is a real character and she is still as feisty as she was when I first started here seven years ago.

"You can sit down and have a chat with her and she's still really on the ball. She is marvellous."

The garden party, which runs from 2pm to 4pm, will include a raffle and food, as well as a visit from New Addington councillor Brenda Kirby.

“I take it Ted that you are just plain stupid to smoke 60 fags a day, when your father died and had lungs like a coal mine.”

“Docters ask you if you smoke, take drugs, or drink alcohol, before they offer you treatment, now fair enough, you might need meds, so could clash....

But, to deny someone complete treatment because of smoking, they will need to be 100% that the problem the person has is related to smoking. Most illnesses are passed down in family genes. If they can come up with 100% proof that fags are harmful to you, i will quit. Now they banned smoking from pubs, but still allow alcohol..hmmm now theres something that don't make sense.”

“Ted, your dead being irrelevant is beside the point, did he have lung cancer? I don't think a report proves you right if numerous pathologists state that upon autopsy it is not possible to tell if someone smoked”
