September Tuesday 6 marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Croydon Advertiser and its sister publication, recently re-named the Advertiser

Midweek.

The Croydon Advertiser is now a part-paid, part-free title offering wider circulation and distribution to more than 70,000 homes in Croydon and Sutton.

Editor Andy Worden said: "We pride ourselves on producing one of the best weekly newspapers in the country, with a reputation for breaking the big stories in Croydon before anyone else. It is incredibly exciting that so many more people are now going

to get the chance to read the Croydon Advertiser.

“At the same time we recognise that life is local and within Croydon there are numerous smaller communities. We are taking the opportunity of the re-launch to add to our package in-depth coverage of local community news."

Local sport coverage will also be extended, taking advantage of greater pagination to include a 12-page sport supplement in the centre of the new title.

The Advertiser Midweek, previously known as the Croydon Post, hit the streets yesterday (Tuesday) as a pick-up title available in supermarkets, libraries and shopping centres throughout Croydon. This exposure is supported by copies being handed

out at local stations and distributed door to door to more than 15,000 homes in

selected areas.

Commercial Director Nicola Rogers said: “The Croydon Advertiser is a fantastic brand and has a very proud

heritage of serving the London Boroughs of Croydon and Sutton.”

    “Paul,

Anne of Selsdon has stopped her waffling since the site changed its format (thank God for small mercies). As for 'the occasional council stupidity' every thing they say and do is stupid.
A decent paper would call them to task and also follow up stories.”

“The journalistic standard in this paper is a disgrace. Hacks. You are nothing short of hacks.

Bitter and twisted. Fleet Street so near yet so far. Instead you are doomed to report provincial news in a nothing town with pretensions of being a city.

You have only gang violence and Anne of Selsdon to report on. Chav crimes, parking violations and the occasional council stupidity. Nothing stories with no angle, no chance of that once in a lifetime scoop-that one singular chance to elevate your profession to the heights it could reach.

So the integrity, that once in college, you held in such high regard has now slipped past and is such a distant memory. You peddle out the same tired old nonsense day after day after day for people from New Addington who can barely read and who yearn for statues of dead criminals.

And so the people who starve for stories of truth, insight, of real journalistic worth and merit, those of us who wait for Croydons Watergate are left with nought to sate us but the stories of two fat girls who couldn't be bothered to dial 192 and the re re re launch of this rag

Croydon has more to report on than what we are offered. Corruption, misdeeds, racial tension, poverty, crime etc etc etc etc etc

give us stories, investigate, uncover, report inform and shape public opinion and if you choose not to hang your collective heads in shame. you disgrace your self and your professions”
