Norbury stabbing connected to fight between men armed with sticks

FIGHT: Police are linking the stabbing to a fight where men were armed with sticks
Police believe that the stabbing of a 20-year-old in Norbury is linked to a fight between a group of men who were seen chasing each other with sticks.
Officers were called to Burley Close at around 2.40pm on Thursday to reports of a stabbing which has left a man in a “critical but stable" condition in hospital.
Earlier in the day it is believed that an argument broke out between four or five black and Asian men, all aged in their 20s, in the same street.
Two of the men were seen to be chasing each other around two vehicles armed with sticks.
A short time later the victim was on Stanford Way, where he was seen being helped by a group of young men.
Because Burley Close is just over the Croydon border, Merton Police are investigating.
Officers are appealing for information and are looking for an Audi A2, which is believed to have been stolen.
Supt Pete Dobson said: "These young men know each other and were obviously involved in some kind of dispute which led to the assault on the victim.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen them earlier in the afternoon or in the local area.
"A young man lies seriously ill in hospital and it is imperative that we gain more information as to what happened on that afternoon.
"In particular we are looking for a vehicle that may have been connected to this incident. It is an Audi A2 registration number GN52 KFT."
