Tesco has delayed its opening in Coulsdon because of electrical problems.

An Express store was due to launch today (Tuesday) in Chipstead Valley Road but after builders stumbled across some electrical difficulties bosses put the opening back until Friday (February 26).

Work on the store, which is replacing the old Woolworths, began just after Christmas and it is expected to generate 25 extra jobs.

A spokeswoman confirmed the delay in opening was due to wiring problems and the store would open at 7am on Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am.

“Hopefully it will be the start of people using Coulsdon again.

It's smaller than the Tesco that was originally at the "Kebada" building in Coulsdon but good luck!”
