“I always look before i cross, but sometimes iv been on a Zebra with plenty of time and a car has either zoomed out of a side road or is driving so fast it reaches the crossing whilst i am on it so i jump out of the way. When driving i always make sure i look, yes when its dark it is harder to see, but as soon as i see the orange lights i slow down anyway. Why cant others?”

“You never know, it could be like what happened to me by the fire station in Purley. A young girl of about 20 just walked straight in front of me at the lights, it was just as well I wasn't speeding other wise I would have hit her, needless to say she talking on a mobile phone at the time.
Maybe pedestrians should also think about car drivers in damp dark conditions, after all it works both ways, before just walking onto a zebra crossing you should make sure the cars have stopped first !!!”

“Chris, if the road is "perfectly safe", how come there are "so many accidents"? Could it in fact be that the "common link" is drivers going too fast?”

“That stretch of road between South Croydon and Purley is perfectly safe but I just can't understand why there are so many accidents there. I would be keen to know more about the drivers involved to see if there is a common link. I don't think speed cameras are the answer.”

“typical croydon drivers”

“I am getting fed up with cars ignoring pedestrians on zebra crossings. Whether that was the case here we can't be certain, but its the most likely option. Far too often cars drive across while people are on the crossing. I've had one car go so close to me that the wing mirror actually brushed my body (at that point I was 2/3 of the way across the road). Please, as you drive around in your metal box, respect others - pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, etc.”

“There is a strong reasoning for bringing in speed cameras along this stretch of road as it is not uncommon for cars to speed along this road late at night. Respect others, drive carefully!”
