Plans for church not dropped says group
A CHURCH group insists it has made no decision about whether it will be appealing against the rejection of a controversial planning application.
Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) wants to change the Gala Bingo Hall, in Church Road, on the Crystal Palace/Upper Norwood border, into a church.
Bromley Council rejected the proposal in December and KICC has until mid-June to appeal.
It had been reported this week that KICC had dropped its plans to appeal the decision.
But these claims have been strongly denied by the centre which insists nothing has been decided.
Speaking yesterday, a spokesman for KICC confirmed: "We are still considering our options. We are not sure where this other story has come from."
Protesters want to see the former bingo hall turned into a cinema instead.
A massive community campaign was launched last June after residents learnt that KICC had outbid City Screen, an independent cinema chain, to buy the building.
