Beauty over pain is usually a mantra spoken by supermodels – but this gorgeous dog got a cut of a different kind went she went for her summer trim.

FEELING BLUE: Poochie
Poochie’s leg was accidentally cut when her owner, Amanda Hazel, 19, took the two-year-old Yorkshire terrier for a haircut at Top to Tail in Purley. Now Ms Hazel has vowed never to take Poochie for a professional cut again.
The mum-of-two, of Ridgemount Avenue , Coulsdon, said she had taken Poochie for her summer trim on April 29 but because her hair was so matted the groomers accidentally snipped Poochie’s back right leg.
Staff at Top to Tail, in Old Lodge Lane , who charge up to £40 for a cut, immediately took the pet to their vet. They paid for staples to be fitted to heal the two inch cut and a collar put on to stop her ripping them out. They also gave Poochie's groom free of charge.
But Ms Hazel said: “All we wanted to do was make her look nice for summer but now she is quiet and quite sad.”
Sophie Hunter, manager of the grooming parlour, said they had thousands of clients and accidents rarely happened.
She added: “When Poochie came in she had severely matted hair on the groin and Yorkshire terriers have very thin skin.
“Accidents do happen and as soon as it occurred we rang Ms Hazel and Poochie went to our vet. We spoke to Ms Hazel about after care and handed her information on how to look after Poochie’s cut. The aftercare is the responsibility of the owner when they get home.”

“Poor little pup, I have 4 dogs and know I would be gutted if anything happended to any one of them at the grooming parlour, but in all fairness to them, they acted responsibly and did the right thing, hope Poochie gets better soon”

“Awww, poor puppy, but I don't think it's fair to 'name and shame' this grooming parlour. I don't know it, never been, I don't even own a dog, but these things do occasionally happen, it's just one of the dangers of the job, and of taking your pet to be groomed. In my opinion the shop did everything correctly after the accident, veterinary treatment was sought at their expense, and it doesn't sound like it was a very serious injury. Of course nobody wants their pet hurt, but it does happen and isn't put in the paper every day.”

“What a super looking pooch. I do so hope the injury soon heals up, which it probably should do.
Accidents do happen; I'm sure the staff were just a tad unlucky, as was poochie.”

“After reading the above article and being a regular client at Top To Tail, I see this incident merely as an accident? The staff at Top to Tail are very kind, caring and always have the animals welfare at the front of their mind. My westie Ben has been going for years and always comes out very happy. It's a shame that accidents happen but I also feel the owner has some responsibility for letting it get in what sounds like a matted neglected state.”
