A post office has been shut for two weeks after undergoing an audit.

Customers of the post office on Wickham Road, Shirley, have been questioning why it has been closed for so long.

A Post Office spokeswoman said that the closure was temporary following the unannounced audit.

But she refused to say when the branch would reopen or what the audit had found.

She added: "We apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to be able to re-open this branch as soon as possible."

One customer, who asked not to be named, said: "We had no warning the post office was going to be closed and there is no sign of it opening again."

The nearest post office is on Lower Addiscome Road, Addiscombe.
