Potholes? No, it's just an uneven road, says council

A SHIRLEY resident has been left bemused after waiting several months for what he believed were potholes in his street to be filled in.

Peter Howard, 69, has been calling on Croydon Council to repair six holes in Farm Drive, which officers had marked with chalk for repair in May.

But a council spokesman revealed this week that the holes were not considered potholes or a danger to motorists.

He also confirmed that the road was scheduled to be levelled out this year, but that the repairs would not take priority over more important roadworks.

Mr Howard, however, questioned the "value for money" of the exercise of marking around the holes when nothing had been fixed.

He said: "The council marked the holes for repair about three months ago and the chalk marks are now nearly gone.

"By the time anyone comes (to do the repairs) they will have to mark the holes all over again – it is a disgrace when you consider all the cuts the council is making to save money."

The council spokesman said Farm Drive had been identified as an "uneven road" rather than having potholes and was scheduled to be evened out later in the year.
