A CROYDON comic book publisher has brought the world of the graphic novel online.

Pulp Theatre Entertainment, with its headquarters at the Capital Business Centre in Carlton Road, South Croydon, has struck a deal with Channel 4 to publish Alien Ink, its latest novel, on the TV company's website, www.pressurecomics.com.

And with that success under its belt, the company's founders David Bircham and Daley Osiyemi, and their business partner Esther Bircham are starting negotiations with Hollywood producers.

These centre around the possibility of turning the company's breakthrough adult graphic novel, Brodie's Law, first published in 2004, into a film.

Brodie's Law is a mixture of crime and science fiction. It was created by Mr Bircham and Mr Osiyemi, and took the graphic novel market by storm in both the UK and United States.

Ms Bircham said: "We are very excited about the prospect but negotiations are at a very early stage.

"It is just great that somebody has seen Brodie's Law and likes it so much to think about making a film.

"It is our dream to see that happen."

Alien Ink, which will run for 30 weekly episodes, is a different concept, being aimed particularly at teenagers.

It traces the story of its two main alien characters who set up a tattoo studio in Camden which becomes a haunt for local teenagers.

Ms Bircham said before publication the team had researched the kind of issues facing teenagers, such as relationship problems and drugs.

The story also deals with the daily pressures on youngsters running their own business.

She said: "We have worked these issues into the stories and because they contain more real life content we believe this is what will attract young people."

In addition Alien Ink includes a blog facility which will enable young people to put forward their own ideas. Ms Bircham said: "So many of the young people we speak with have so much creative talent. Alien Ink will enable teenagers, via the blog, to show this creativity and talent whilst addressing current issues that are both important and pertinent to their lifestyle."

Pulp Theatre Entertainment was founded in 2001 as a collective for writers and artists.

It received and continues to receive support from the Croydon Enterprise programme which provides a business advisor and a variety of advice workshops.

Ms Bircham said: "Our adviser, Barclay Thompson, is fantastic and has helped us to focus and to put ourselves in a strong strategic position and to see the bigger picture."
