Purley Canoe Club welcomes new members to Join Our Club
PURLEY Canoe Club was formed in 1991 and now has more than 50 members from the town and beyond.
Adrian Barclay, who is one of the club's nine British Canoe Union qualified coaches, said the group offers a wide variety of water-based pursuits.

He said: "We provide opportunities for our members to try out different aspects of the sport, from flat water paddling in kayaks or canoes, to white water paddling on fast-flowing rivers, to sea kayaking and canoe camping.
"We hold weekly sessions at a local school swimming pool and currently have two to three trips away a month.
"It's an exciting sport and we do weekends away on more challenging rivers such as the River Dart in Devon and the River Wey in Wales."
Adrian first became involved in canoeing during his days in the Scouts and has continued to enjoy the sport ever since.
He said the club has something for everyone, from those seeking a peaceful, relaxing paddle in the countryside surrounded by wildlife to the thrill-seekers who want to navigate their way down fast-moving water, negotiating the rapids.
While the club promotes fun and adventure, it also places a strong emphasis on safety and training, and ensures that members develop skills at their own pace in a safe environment.
Mr Barclay added: "We teach our members how to paddle safely and support all our members to develop their canoeing skills by coaching and assessing them for the various British Canoe Union (BCU) Paddlesport awards.
"Over the years the club has also supported various young people to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Award, by taking part in canoeing as part of the award."
The club boasts members of all ages, with one who started at the age of 3 as well as others who are retired.
Mr Barclay said: "We encourage families and people of all ages to come along and participate for some good exercise and social fun.
"We aim to be an all-inclusive club and welcome disabled people and those from all backgrounds, cultures or religions."

“And where might one be able to go canoeing in Purley?
Surely Purley Pool doesn't count!”
