CONVICTED: Alister Cooling admitted downloading child pornography
BBC reality TV contestant Alister Cooling was today jailed for six months for downloading illegal child porn movies.
The 27-year-old, who featured on extreme reality show Castaway, admitted downloading the movies – some of which hit the highest scale of abuse recorded by police in child porn. Croydon Crown Court today (Friday).
The court heard Cooling –who had movies which featured girls as young as five engaging in sex acts with adults –also downloaded a film showing bestiality.
Cooling, who lived on a deserted island for the show two years ago, first told police he had accidentally downloaded the child porn trying to get adult fantasy movies but when faced with the extent of the images he broke down and said he had become "obsessed".
On Castaway Cooling, of Addington Road, Croydon, was described as the "ultimate coach potato" who said he would miss his computer most when he was living on the island in New Zealand.
He was charged with eight counts of making indecent images, two counts of possession extreme pornography and one count of having an indecent images.
Cooling will serve half his sentence in prison and then be let out on licence.
Sentencing Judge Stephen Waller said: "You had a file sharing system to download this material and the contents of these images are horrifying. Any right thinking person could not but be repulsed by seeing images like these.
"By downloading this material you give encouragement to people who are filming the abuse and suffering of these children."
