A "DANGEROUS" junction in Addiscombe, where a young child was hit by a car earlier this month, has been investigated by Croydon Council.

Local resident David Cox raised concerns about the junction of Lower Addiscombe Road and Bingham Road, after he witnessed the accident at 1.20pm on August 18.

The 62-year-old claims accidents are likely with cars turning right off Lower Addiscombe Road into the very narrow Bingham Road.

Mr Cox said: "It's a very dangerous junction and I would like to see the council put in some traffic calming measures to avoid another accident.

"I'm not a fan of speed bumps but a pedestrian crossing across Bingham Road would encourage motorists to slow down, thereby avoiding a potentially horrible scenario."

Mr Cox e-mailed his concerns to Croydon Central MP Gavin Barwell, who immediately contacted the council's traffic department.

He said officers concluded that a traffic island in Bingham Road should already encourage traffic to slow down.

London Ambulance Service confirmed the boy who was struck by the car, suffered a leg injury.
