Road crash injures gun cops on emergency call
ARMED police officers were left injured by a car crash as they responded to an emergency call.
Officers from Trojan, Scotland Yard's armed response unit, were rushing to an emergency when their squad car was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Windmill Road, Broad Green.
Two firearms officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver of the other car was treated at the scene by ambulance crews.
The crash brought traffic at the junction with Hampton Road to a standstill shortly after 1.45pm on Monday.
Kasper Seward, of Cliffe Road, South Croydon, passed the crash on his scooter.
He said: "Looking at how badly crumpled both the cars' bonnets were it must have been quite a crash.
"When I arrived there were two police officers still sat in the front of the car. They were wearing body armour.
"The other officers at the scene were also wearing protective vests."
A spokesman for Croydon police said the squad car had been following proper procedures.
She said: "The officers were responding to an emergency 'I' graded call at the time of the collision and the vehicles lights and sirens were in use."
