This is Croydon

The Friends of Selsdon Woods Open Day was a great success and it even managed to stay dry.

As we set up in the morning, dark clouds were over head but the rain stayed away and quite a number of people came out to visit the woods and join in the guided walks.

There was badge making and storytime for the younger children, plus a wonderful supply of cakes provided by the scouts.

There were stalls set up by various groups such as the Badger Society and the RSPB selling lots of interesting items to raise money for there continued work.

This will hopefully be the first of many such events, so look out for an advert about this time next year.

I would also like to remind those who read my last blog and tell those that didn't that there is still time to sponsor Gavin Barwell - on www.justgiving.com/gavinbarwell who is walking around Croydon Central's boundary next Sunday in aid of the Alzhiemers Society.

He will be on his final leg of the walk when he treks through Selsdon Woods so please spare a few coins if you see him on his journey, as it will all be going to a very good cause.

If you feel like it's time to do some exercise, why not try walking. If you aren't sure about where to go for a fun, enjoyable, sociable walk why not join one of Croydon Council's organised Health Walks.

They last for approximately one hour depending on the size and ability of the group.

You can take your dog but it must be on a lead for the duration of the walk. It is best to be at the starting point 15 minutes before the start time and suitable footwear is necessary – so no stilettos.

To get details of the walks you can contact the Active Lifestyles Team on 020 8726 6900.

Alternatively you can get more details in my next blog.
