Fun and active learning has been credited as being behind a South Norwood school getting the highest possible rating from Ofsted inspectors.
Cypress Infant School was not only assessed as "outstanding" overall but got the top mark in every single category it was judged on.
The school, which caters for 321 pupils and nursery school children, has improved on its previous rating of "good with outstanding features" when it was last inspected three years ago.
Since then the school has been achieving higher than the national average marks in reading, writing and maths.
Head teacher Nicky Godetz is "thrilled" with the result. She said: "We were good with outstanding features last time so we worked towards improvement.
"That's what we were aiming for and believe we deserved."
Ms Godetz said that teachers always try to develop the "whole child". She explained: "We always operate a family first approach. The parents know what we're trying to do and work with us.
"Lessons and education are important but they're part of the bigger picture.
"We encourage learning that is fun and active. We have the children motivated in a way that plays to their strengths."
Ofsted inspectors described Cypress Infants as being: "An outstanding school which provides an inclusive and stimulating environment, where pupils thrive and make excellent progress."
Ms Godetz says the achievement was all the more remarkable given that the education watchdog brought in a more rigorous marking scheme this academic year.
It has resulted in many schools going down a grade, but Cypress has bucked the trend by making an improvement.
Ofsted inspectors added that pupils were given excellent support when they joined the school and that staff had worked hard to improve children's results in reading and maths.
While pleased with the praise, Ms Godetz admits the pressure is now on to maintain the high standards.
"We have to keep the place outstanding," she said. "It's a different sort of pressure trying to stay there.
"We will have new staff, parents and children so you're not dealing with the same team all the time.
"But we will include them into the Cypress way. That's where we go from here."
