Spring into Fashion with Artist Springboard
There's just over a week to go until the Croydon Fashion Festival bursts into town and we're all looking forward to seeing this year's shows.
For all fans of undiscovered designers and fashion that's far from the usual High Street fare, the Artist Springboard show on June 25 is a must-see.
Artists Springboard is a platform for new and established designers, stylists and fashion artists to promote their skills across the world.
They sign up to the website which lists their details and images of their work, so that people in the industry can view it and book them.
And it's some of these talented artists who will be taking part in the company's own catwalk show, which features a young designer from Croydon, Ying Sun. Her first, unique collection is based around dressing better at home and features glamorous silk and lace aprons and arm covers.
The show also features handbags from Atelier Annick, jewellery from Sheena Bulsara, label MIA's fusion of recycled and African materials, and BlessEtain Modelling Agency.
Artist springboard marketing director Natasha Komolafe says: "Our mission is to raise our artists' profiles and the work they're going to be showing is very inspirational, so hopefully it will attract some interest.
"Fashion lovers will be quite keen to find out where they can buy the clothes we're showing, so in terms of getting out there and gaining public interest the Croydon Fashion Festival is going to be great for us.
"Later in the year we're hoping to sell our artists' designs via the website, too."
Artist Springboard, based in Greenwich, features some top artists like the famous milliner Louis Mariette, designer of the world's most expensive headpiece which is valued at £1.5 million.
They may only have set up a year ago, but Artist Springboard already have around 80 artists on their database and are hoping to pick up a few more talented individuals at Croydon Fashion Festival.
Natasha says: "We encourage most fashion graduates to sign up with us, as well as established designers, so we'll be keeping an eye on the other designs at the festival.
"It's hard for fashion artists to get work in such a competitive industry and our website helps get their work out there and noticed.
"We're really hoping to pull off a great show at the Croydon Fashion Festival."
