Stirring comeback sees Phoenix rise to the top

Premier Division

AFC Phoenix welcomed a 2-2 draw with bottom league team RFTS Croydon Athletico as they were two down in the first half.

But the point earned them top spot of the league on goal difference. This was thanks to goals from L Bryan and L Bonin, who scored his sixth goal in seven games.

Division One

THE points were shared in the bottom-of-the-table clash between Kurdish United and Golden Lion Reserves, the game ending 3-3. J Cleary scored twice for the Lions with N Harding adding the other.

Postmac hit Woodmansterne Hyde for six in a back-to-basics performance with excellent play.

This included a D Douglas-Marshall hat-trick, giving him 10 for the season so far. K Reed, N Smith and J Walker scored the others.

Division Two

CROYDON Postal, the division's leaders, beat bottom-of-the-table Portland 2-1 thanks to goals from P Pratt and P Thomas either side of half-time.

B Mankelow set up a tense finish, scoring his goal straight from a corner, but a draw was not to be.

Real Madras beat Coulsdon Rangers 6-1. Tim Lloyd scored a hat-trick for them with Ian Ashford and Geoff Willsmore adding the others. They gained another through a Coulsdon own goal. D Fitzpatrick got Coulsdon's goal.

Victory gave Real Madras five wins out of five for November.

Division Three

MAPLE Tree won their game 6-4 against league leaders Croydon Independiente.

Described as a good game in difficult weather conditions, Maple Tree were able to maintain control to secure the points.

A Bamberber and L Hazelby scored two each, with B Ladiende and R Taylor getting the others.

It was a hard-fought match with big challenges on a slippy surface but the match between Carshalton Town and Croydon City ended 2-2.

S Shew and K Yansen scored the goals for Carshalton.

AFC Rio won their game 2-0 against Green Phoenix Eagles.

Chris Fisher scored and A Berry netted the other to put him joint second in the division's scoring charts.

Division Four

RAVENS United won 6-1 against a poor Forum Flyers who were simply disappointing. A Ackland got their consolation goal.

PSV Greenacres beat Oakfield Manor B 4-2. J Gooders, S Greenaway, T Greengrass and N Oddy were the Greenacre scorers. M Bause and D Wilkes got the Oakfield goals.

League leaders Barracuda won again this time 5-2 against Athletico Croydon. Barracuda took advantage of opponents starting with 10 men, scoring twice in the first five minutes and were never really under pressure.

Athletico tried to get back into the game with goals from J Booth and S Flynn, but left it too late.

Addiscombe Corinthians drew 3-3 against Ashburton Wanderers to maintain second spot.

A Malcolm scored twice with G Buckly getting the other. B Heaton scored twice for Ashburton and C Taylor the other.

Division Five

Phoenix Athletic smashed Croydon Jags 10-1 with an outstanding performance. S Pytlewicz got the Jags only goal but Ian Muir, of Phoenix, replied with four of his own, A Jones, Junior Thoams and T Thorpe all added two each for a resounding victory.

Croydon JFC maintained top spot in the division thanks to a 3-2 win over Goodfellas C. D Anderson, A Corps and J Stubbs got the Croydon goals.

Selsdon Wanderers beat Southwark Caribb 2-1. P Amikero getting the goal for Caribb. C Hack and C Snow getting the Selsdon goals.

Wickham Wanderers beat second placed Surrey Valley Reserves 2-1 thanks to a brace from G Kelly. S Blowers got the Surrey goal.

League Cup

Premier League Mitsubishi Electric continued their impressive form and beat Carlton United of Division Two 8-1.

K Darylmple and P Towler got two each, S Derusa, T Linekar and B Collins the others. Carlton's goal was scored by D McGuinness.

Addington United also scored eight and beat struggling 10 man South Norwood United of Division Three by 8-1.

Division One Goodfellas beat Division Two Sovereign 1-0 thanks to a G Glazebrook goal leaving Sovereign disappointed especially as two strong shouts for penalties were not awarded.

KS Apalonia of Division Five could not contain high-flying CR Galaxy and lost 7-1.

The Galaxy scorers were J Bolton, J King, J Gibbs, G Harris, R Gray and finally J Guilford and R Guilford got the remaining two.

Surrey Intermediate Cup

PURLEY Phoenix represented the league in fine style, winning their third round tie against Frenches Sport 10-5.

B Broom scored five goals, M Osbourne added three and K Campbell two for a great victory.
