FLUSH from their massive win over Middlesex the week before Surrey were brought crashing down to earth in the Middleton Cup at Berkshire.

The team travelled to Suttons BC, Lower Earley near Reading but the tables were turned by the home county who led for almost the entire match and ran out 127-110 winners.

The Berkshire team included Mark Bantock and Robert Newman two of the men selected for the five-man England Commonwealth Games team playing in India later this year.

Berkshire took the bulk of the points on offer with 18 to Surrey's solitary four. For the first half of the game there was only single figures between the two sides, but the following five ends saw Surrey conceding a further 21 shots to slip further and further behind.

Only the rinks of Barry Jenkins and Dennis Hennessy won for Surrey although Ian Honnor had a titanic battle with Berkshire's Newman before losing the last end by just one shot.

In the other group match played on Saturday Hampshire beat Middlesex 116-92.

Only Surrey can throw away the benefits of last week's massive win and there lies another daunting away trip to Oxfordshire tomorrow at Banbury Central BC (2pm).
