Sutton & Epsom 27 Tring 12

SUTTON & Epsom rediscovered their passion and skill as they recorded their second win of the season with an expansive performance on Saturday.

At every opportunity Sutton spread the ball wide, off loading with ease, always with players in support and cut swathes through the Tring defence.

Sutton were also solid in defence, closing down Tring's flying winger Tim Holgate who had scored five tries against Sutton in their last two meetings and only visiting fly half Tom Newton caused them any trouble.

Sutton opened the scoring when, from a lineout five metres from the Tring line, the home pack drove over for lock Felix Symonds to get the touch down. The conversion attempt went just wide.

Tring pinned Sutton back and Newton kicked a penalty before Frost sent over two of his own in reply, the latter after a magnificent charge upfield by captain Steve Munford and James Bennett.

Late in the half on a rare visit to Sutton's 22, Newton kicked another penalty to cut Sutton's lead to 11-6.

In the second half Frost and Newton exchanged penalties, before Newton kicked his fourth to reduce the deficit to two points.

But Sutton always looked in control and an inch perfect kick into space behind the Tring defence saw No 8 Chris Endersby pound upfield to collect the ball and pass inside to centre Simon Green who ran in to score an unconverted try.

A Frost penalty stretched the lead to 10 points, before a scrum five metres out saw Endersby pick up at the base and force his way over the line.

This Saturday Sutton travel to Bishops Stortford (kick off 2.15pm) for their next league fixture.

Sutton: Middleton, Burrell, Warnham, Green, Richens, Frost, Munford, Harrington, Bennett, Bellringer, Nicholls, Symonds, White, Niven, Endersby. Subs: Pearson, Edwards, Murray.
