Tasty new dishes join old favourites at Bay

L ittle Bay is a perfect venue for family meals, girlie get-togethers, office outings and dates. In fact, pretty much any occasion!
The price tags and funky atmosphere make it a go-to place again and again and no wonder it is usually busy, with diners needing to book in advance to be sure of seating in one of the kitsch theatre style boxes, extravaganzas of crushed velvet, gold lame and glitter.The outside has just benefited from a lick of fresh white paint and the European bistro style menu has had a revamp.
It takes some doing for me to decline my usual tasty choux de crab starter (savoury profiteroles stuffed with crab meat and laced with citrus Hollandaise) and main of roast breast of Barbary duck served with root veg gratin and red cabbage with wonderful honey ginger sauce, which I've enjoyed on numerous occasions.

So, what a treat to be asked to visit Little Bay for professional purposes and branch out to sample some of the new dishes.
New on the a la carte menu are plenty of tempting things. To begin I went for grilled chicken satay sticks served with crunchy peanut butter sauce and a nicely dressed bit of greenery while my daughter opted for the baked field mushrooms with blue cheese. Both delicious.
From the mains selection I decided on slow-cooked shoulder of lamb with creamy potatoes and flageolet beans (definitely worth trying). But it was a close call between that and several others. Among the new dishes are braised pork belly with apple and potato mash and black pudding with soya ginger sauce; chicken breast stuffed with walnuts, peppers and sun dried tomato with leek and potato mash or oven-roast spiced fillet of salmon with kernel nut and raisin couscous and chick peas.
There are always several competitively priced specials too, including spatchcock, rump of lamb, sea bass and steaks.
One of the things which makes Little Bay so irresistible is the price list. From noon to 7pm starters are just £2.75 with mains at £6.25. Even after 7pm the price rise is minimal – to £3.45 and £7.55. Desserts are £2.75 and £3.45 depending on time.
It is amazing value for food which you could easily be expected to pay double for elsewhere.
A new offer is a three-course a la carte menu (not including specials) for parties of 12 or more for just £9.95 a head, any time, any day. Ideal for birthday and other celebration events. It would be almost silly not to take advantage of such a good thing!
If you like a bit of music with your food drop by Monday or Wednesday evening to be serenaded by a singer who serves up a selection of light operatic arias. And on Saturday evenings it is time for other sorts of live music.
If you've never tried Little Bay, now is the time. If you haven't been for a while, get back there to sample some exciting new dishes representing quantity and quality at unbeatable prices.
