Asad's aromatic plan to aid cancer charity
A GROUP of curry-lovers believe they have come up with a naan-tastic way of raising money for charity.
Businessman Asad Khan asked staff at his India Dining restaurant in Warlingham to think of a spice idea to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
And they managed to rice to the challenge – coming up with a plan to release a curry-scented perfume.
The unisex perfume, which will be named Tears on my Pilau, will include aromatic spices cumin, chilli, cardamom, fennel, ginger and cinnamon, and will go on sale early next month.
And although it sounds like a strange idea, director Mr Khan says the concept is not really that hard to believe.
He said: "We understand some people might see it as a strange thing, but I would say have a smell before you make a judgement.
"In India a lot of people use these spices for a range of things including cooking, medicinal purposes and smells. They are very aromatic.
"People will not end up smelling like a curry, but we have used the spices that would typically go in a curry."
The scent is expected to retail with a price tag of £39.99, with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mr Khan said the fragrant fundraiser was planned to mark a special occasion.
He explained: "We wanted to raise money for Macmillan and thought we would launch the perfume to coincide with National Curry Week.
"It was a team effort coming up with the idea and the name. It has gone really well so far.
"We don't have all of our units done yet but we do have a few samples.
"We have been handing them around our customers and had a mixed response.
"Some people love it, others don't, but everyone has said it is interesting.
"We want to help and raise money and hopefully people will like the scent and want to help too."
If you would like to enquire about the perfume, call the restaurant on 01883 625905.
