Read all about it. A group of determined journalists are going to press with a new magazine that deals with what they believe are the real issues affecting London's youth.
Youthwise, to be launched next month, is a quarterly magazine focusing on entertainment, fashion, crime, arts and personal issues – and it has been entirely produced by teenage volunteers.
The young press pack from the Elevating Success training and mentoring service in Union Road, West Croydon, started work on the magazine's first edition in July and are now preparing to go to print.
Everyone in the team, from agony aunt Stephanie Nicholson, 18, to 15-year-old brainstormer Michael Kennedy, has been given a unique role to fulfil.
And they all agree that it has taught them valuable teamwork and research skills.
Editor Angel Nicholls, 18, from Spa Hill, Upper Norwood, said: "My role is proofing stories and making sure everything is running smoothly, but everyone is involved.
"Everyone gets along really well. We're all a team.
"I think it will give young people a voice because we're concentrating on real people."
The project was funded to the tune of £7,000 by Croydon Enterprise and Elevating Success.
It is hoped Youthwise's content, as well as the effort that has gone into producing it, will dispel some of the stereotypes surrounding youths in London today.
St Andrew's High pupil Ackora Hoilett, 13, has been working on an art competition for the first issue.
Youthwise can be picked up for free from schools, libraries, leisure centres and churches in Croydon, Lewisham and Brixton from mid-October.
