GRIDLOCK: Traffic ground to a halt around Croydon
A road accident brought Croydon town centre to a standstill this morning (Friday).
A crash at about 7.30am between a motorbike and a car on Lower Church Street resulted in busy Roman Way being closed for about 90 minutes.
The male motorcyclist suffered a suspected fractured hip and was taken away by ambulance to hospital.
Croydon Flyover suffered tailbacks back to the Fiveways junction.
There were also long delays reported on Brighton Road, Stafford Road and around Croydon underpass.
A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: "We were called just before 7.30am to reports of a road traffic collision on Lower Church Street involving a car and a motorcyclist.
"We sent one ambulance crew to the scene and staff treated one patient, a man believed to be in his 30s, who was taken to Mayday Hospital."

“I hope that the motorcyclist is okay and recovers soon.
It's amazing how one small incident can bring gridlock to the streets. I was also shocked at the attitude of some of the motorists caught up in the resultant traffic queues, determined to keep their place in the queue they blocked junctions causing even more chaos.”

“I hope that the motor cyclist is okay, but this just goes to show how one little thing can bring gridlock to the streets.
I was on a 157 and had to get off and walk about a mile to work. Cars, vans etc all sat across junctions and traffic lights, blocking other vehicles. Had drivers adopted a bit of consideration the traffic problems would not have been as bad.”
