Nature walks across Croydon
As promised in my last blog, I am providing information about some of the walks that take place in Croydon.
The council organises walks, to enable those who want to walk in a group to meet up and enjoy our open spaces.
There are walks for all levels, from beginners just starting to think about taking up the challenge, and for those who are fitter and more experienced, there are advanced walks which normally mean the walk is longer and sometimes on hilly terrain.
For example, a walk ideal for beginners takes place every Monday at 11am, meeting at the tram stop in Lloyds Park. Alternatively 11am, every Wednesday there is a walk through South Norwood Country Park which meets at South Norwood Pool.
For those who want the advanced level, there is a three mile walk at 1pm in Lloyds Park, also meeting at the tram stop. Information on these and other health walks can be obtained on 020 8726 6900.
There are also guided wildlife walks.
These are suitable for most people as the pace is generally easy but paths can be uneven and muddy, so good shoes are a must. Information on these is available from the Community Partnership Officer on 020 8726 6000 extension 64952.
On Saturday, September 27, there is a walk in Littleheath Woods, Selsdon, starting at 10am, looking at the seeds and fruit in the woods – there might even be a chance to pick some to take home!
Then on Sunday, October 26, there will be a walk around Happy Valley and Farthing Downs Nature Trail in Old Coulsdon, starting at 2pm.
On Saturday, November 15, a two to three hour Finicky Fungus walk takes place at 11am starting at Whitgift Field, end of Tandridge Gardens, Sanderstead.
If anyone takes part in these walks I would love to hear what they thought of them.
