Youngsters at a children's centre could soon be getting an extra boost during their playtime.

Georgina Steinthal, headteacher of Caterham's Marden Lodge Primary School, has lodged a planning application to erect two canopies – the first is 50 feet long and the other is 40 feet long. The canopies will benefit youngsters who use the Kestrels Children's Centre attached to the Croydon Road school.

In the application to Tandridge Council, Miss Steinthal said: "The aim is to create an undercover play area by erecting a canopy, to improve outdoor play for the children's centre.

"In this way the play and learning environment can naturally flow from the inside to the outside, whatever the weather."
