Unusual suspects
THIS week Stephanie Darkes interviews Kobayashi.
Where did you guys meet?
Matt: Sort of thanks to you putting my old band Rococo on at The Sheep, James came to check out the competition and we fell in love. Later he introduced me to Alan, I met Mark in our "day job" as paramedics.
You've been playing around Croydon for a while, how would you say the scene has changed?

Matt: The alternative music scene has always been Croydon's best kept secret. It was and continues to be full of astounding, talented, surprising individuals who do what they do because they're passionate about it.
James: The talent now is incredible – at worst – and inspiring at best. Bands like Los and Tangled Hair are really raising the bar. It's a good time for Croydon!
According to Wikipedia Kobayashi means 'small forest' in Japanese, discuss….
James: Kobayashi is the antagonist from Bryan Singer's The Usual Suspects. Incidentally, 'Kobayashi is one of the most popular surnames in Japan, making us quite like The Smiths.
What exciting gigs have you got coming up?
James: We'll be storming our favourite Croydon joint, The Scream Lounge on 27 October. Be there or be not in attendance; your loss.
Mark: We're entering the London Ambulance Service Battle of the Bands too.
