Tram passengers and a van driver had a lucky escape yesterday afternoon after a crash in New Addington.

A tram and a van collided at the junction between King Henry's Drive and Lodge Lane shortly before 4.20pm.

But amazingly everyone escaped serious injury.

A spokeswoman from the London Ambulance Service told the Advertiser: "Two patients were treated on the scene with minor injuries by staff, but no one was taken to hospital."

“I drove where the tram crashed into a van yesterday morning and one set of the lights were red, near the garage but the other set that I was about to go through were still green. I am wondering now if there was a fault with the lights not changing. I think the speed of trams here should be lowered, When the tram crossed near Addington Village and Gravel Hill the trams are going reasonably slow but coming through the roundabout at the top of Lodge Lane, they go really fast. As this is where both cars and people can cross, maybe there should be a slow speed limit from now on to avoid casulties.”
