Victim's brother helped by project
A VOCALIST is championing a new record label which has provided a "positive" outlet for his grief after his brother was killed at East Croydon train station.
Evian Cafun, 26, from New Addington, has signed up as a vocalist and manager for Dubliminal, a dubstep record label which his brother, Joseph, used to be involved in.
Joseph, from Shirley, was electrocuted when he hit his head on a live rail after losing his balance and falling off platform one at the station on May 25.
Since his brother's death, Evian has become heavily involved in promoting the record label, which was set up by his cousin, Justin, from Thornton Heath, in 2009.
He revealed he had been organising his brother's belongings and found recordings of some of the tracks Joseph produced for the label on his computer.
"Music has really helped me deal with the loss of my brother," he added. "It's one of the reasons I've become so involved in the record label. It's kept me feeling positive every day.
"Joseph was really into music. He's given me the incentive to make this happen. My brother would be really proud."
Dubliminal consists of seven members, who go by the names of Cessman, Potentz, DubTechnicians, Ten Bag, Valor, Fela Mandela and Tara Dionne, who produce dubstep tracks.
They pride themselves on making "forward thinking" music and hope their work will reach out to audiences who would not traditionally listen to dubstep, a type of electronic music.
"I want to open up people's ears to dubstep," said Evian. "Our music is roots-based and has a melody which you can dance to."
Evian has organised a record label launch party which will take place at the Arch 269 club, in Brixton, on August 27.
Doors open at 10pm and entry costs £10.
