VOLUNTEERS met on Saturday to thrash out plans for taking care of Coulsdon Coppice.

About a dozen helpers cleared litter from the nature reserve before retiring to Byron School, where they formed the Friends of Coulsdon Coppice group

The coppice, home to ancient woodland, orchids and badgers, has been neglected in recent years and suffers from litter and overgrown brambles.

The friends aim to restore the woodland to a point at which nature can flourish and a place which locals can enjoy.

The next clearing session will take place at 10am on Sunday. New volunteers are welcome. Contact Councillor Chris Wright on 01737 555581 for details.
