Warlingham 33 Bromley 8

WARLINGHAM ran in five tries last Saturday to power past newly promoted Bromley and go into their local derby against Purley John Fisher in good heart.

The opening score came from skipper Tom Street, after full back James Agate had gathered the ball in his own half and passed to Ryan Walsh, who sent Street in for the try. Joe Chivers converted.

Bromley responded brightly but the home defence was sound with crushing tackles from lock John Wright and prop James Delderfield.

Then from a midfield scrum No 8 Mark Macaskill broke and wing Jon Osborne finished the move in style.

Chivers added the extras, but Bromley again showed promise and reduced the deficit with a well struck penalty.

Warlingham missed chances to increase their lead with handling errors spoiling promising opportunities, but after the interval Delderfield stole the ball at a ruck and made a hole in the Bromley defence, allowing the supporting Wright to twisted and turn his way over for a third try under the posts. Chivers converted.

The home side turned the screw and Macaskill started and ended a fine break with the fourth score of the afternoon, Chivers adding the two points.

The Bromley backline swung into action and only a try-saving tackle by Agate denied them. He then starred at the other end, finishing off a move down the right. Chivers missed his target however.

Bromley managed a consolation try in the corner before the end, but Wars coach Bill Maynard was a happy man.

He said: "We were committed, patient and kept to the game plan."

Warlingham host Purley John Fisher tomorrow (Saturday), who beat Deal & Betteshanger 22-14 last weekend.
