Warlingham 44 KCS Old Boys 18

WARLINGHAM kept their promotion hopes alive with victory over a side level on points with them at kick-off.

KCS showed their intent with some incisive early running and only a last-ditch tackle by Macaskill saved the line from the visitors scrum half.

Warlingham were frustrated at being unable to secure possession and a KCS penalty, followed by their winger scoring an unconverted try, made it look ominous for the home side.

But when flanker Neil Robson made a clean break and fly half Ryan Walsh took play within inches of the line, quickly recycled ball allowed captain Tony Williams to barrel over for the first Warlingham try converted by James Agate.

Agate added a penalty after the restart to put Warlingham ahead, before Robson made the final yards to score a second unconverted try.

Winger James Griffiths always looked dangerous and his break put centre Miles Waud in for the hosts' third score.

KCS looked more determined after the interval and their second try came after some straight running by their backs.

Then a poor kick out of defence by Warlingham allowed the KCS winger to score an easy try, although both tries went unconverted so Warlingham kept their noses in front.

Half backs Ollie Doe and Walsh linked down the right flank putting Walsh in for his second score, converted by Agate, closely followed by a similar move which David Stamp finished off in the corner.

Robson eluded the KCS defence to score his second try converted by Chivers, but Warlingham saved their best until last when Stamp cheekily came inside his opposite number and gave Agate a pass deep within the Warlingham half. Agate pinned his ears back and from 70 metres reached the KCS tryline.

Warlingham head coach, Steve Wagstaff said: "I was really pleased to see Ben Wiseman do a good job for us and the younger players also stepped up in a critical game for us. This is a strong league and we've still a lot of work to do."

This Saturday Warlingham visit third placed Lewes.

ELSEWHERE in London Two South East, Purley John Fisher beat rock-bottom Eastbourne 27-19 at Parsons Pightle.
