A HEARTBROKEN pet owner whose beloved cat was "torn apart" by foxes is warning people to keep their moggies inside and safe from danger.

Lindsey Goater was devastated when her cat Pickle was viciously mauled by the wild animals.

The 17-year-old cat's body was discovered in a neighbour's garden around four days after he disappeared.

Lindsey, from Selsdon, said: "Pickle was such a gorgeous boy and so docile.

"He didn't turn up for his dinner one day which was very out of character – when he went missing we thought he was locked in a shed somewhere.

"My neighbour put him in a bag and brought him to me.

"It was heartbreaking to see him like that with his legs torn off and his fur pulled out.

"People say 'get over it' but he was part of the family."

The 45-year-old's remaining two cats have stopped going out since the attack.

"My baby cat Whinger has not gone out since it happened." Lindsey continued.

"He just stares at the cat flap – it's like he can sense what's going on.

"To other cat owners in the area I would say just keep them in. It shouldn't have to be like that but what else can we do?

"I have two daughters who are 23 and 24 and they'd known Pickle since he was a kitten.

"He was part of their lives – it's so sad."

Lindsey's neighbours heard foxes screaming and fighting in the early evening when Pickle went missing.

Audrey Smith, who lives below her in Abbey Road, said: "We found Pickle in one of the gardens and his feet had been bitten off and his insides torn out. When you wonder what happened, it is unbearable.

"There are always foxes about and if anyone is feeding them they should stop – these animals shouldn't be encouraged."

The 87-year-old said that another cat had been attacked and had its tail bitten off in the area.

She added: "I love animals and I know it is nature for them to kill, but when they attack and kill our pets who we love, it makes you think again.

"Surely something can be done.

"I don't think we should have all these foxes at all – they should be gotten rid of.

"Most people would feel the same if something like this happened to them."

“one of our dogs got attacked by a Staff in selsdon woods, the owner had it on a string thick lead which it broke through, the owner said he had never done it before and couldn't get it off my dog

We ran to the vets spending hundreds and the staff owner wandered off, no details, no offer to fund the vet, no sorry

Then we understand the Staff owner's kid has been telling other kids at school that our dog attacked them, even with our 9 witnesses we were walking with.

The police did nothing, the dog warden, don't bother, they won't

If this happens to you then ignore the helpful tips like a finger in the staff's bum, etc to unlock the jaw, yank the front legs apart tearing a main artery, the staff won't be an issue within 90 seconds

We worked out who the Staff was, it belongs to the family in Osward with the kid in the wheelchair, watch out for his dog though, its a massive *******”

“Marie, Thanks for the up date. two and a half years is a long time. But as you say Richie is doing something with his time, and not sitting there blaming the world for his mistakes, He will be nice and clean by the time he comes out and will have realized that he doesn't need any stimulants in his life. wish you both well, keep us up dated every now and then?”

“Yes i must say the owners are responsible for these dogs and most that i have met are more terrifying than the dog itself ! So yes i put my hands up and appologise to those who are good owners with nice Staffies ! Hi tbabygib, Ritchie has been given 4 yrs but is serving 2 and a half which gives him chance to reflect on his behaviour and hopefully turn his life around ! He is currently waiting to start a course the prison service provides but saying that i still think rehab would have been a better option to address his problems long term !”

“Got to agree there tbabygib, devil owners is more the word, who haven't a clue how to look after dogs. And yes, in a public place all dogs should be kept on lead. :)”

“marie1968, I don't think that was a fair statement, About Staffie's, What happened to your cat, where was the Dogs owner? Hope you procecuted. My Staffie, is the most loving girl you could come across. But, I never let her off her lead and have made sure the fence's are in good repair. so I know where she is at all times. You really can not Tar all the Staf's with the same brush, It's down to the owners, Not the Dog. (By the way, How is Ritchie Doing?)”

“This is extremly rare,i have eight cats and they sit with the foxes outside my house no problems, also recently i saved a fox who had been run over and took her home to wait for the RSPCA,my cats curled up next to the Vixen to keep her warm ! I would guess it was more like a dog who was responsible such as a Staf.my elderly cat was picked up and shaken by one of these devil dogs whilst relaxing on the front door mat she was lucky to servive !”

“I reckon a dead cat of 17 doesn't catch much to be honest

    Perhaps Mange,

Has anyone considered that the foxes were working for the ghosts of 17 years of small wildlife, out for revenge?”

“We have a dog. I goes out on a lead or in the car. We know where it is 24 hours a day and we know what it is doing most of the time. It is a member of the family. It eats anything ..... anytime. I understand dogs. They are pets

I don't understand cats. They brush up against you purring and when you tickle their tummy they slash your arm to shreds. You know where they are for a couple of hours a day and most of the time you don't know where they are or what they are doing. Most cat owners don't use a litter tray - they don't need to as their cat sh*ts in a neighbour's garden. Your cat comes back (sometimes) to be fed and then turns its nose up at the salmon or tuna. sometimes when it comes back it brings an almost dead bird to play with, or a frog. Cats are not pets.”

“this poor cat was cut down in its prime, it had at least another 40 years ahead of it !
You say what now, old age

Is this story how the woman thinks or is it a very badly made report written by someone who doesn't understand cats lifescales, old age, foxes eating meat etc?”
