Warnock would welcome American takeover

PALACE manager Neil Warnock said it would be "fantastic" if the club were taken over by Texan multi-millionaire Clark Hunt, but remains sceptical that a deal is in the pipeline.

Reports emerged this morning that Hunt, owner of NFL outfit the Kansas City Chiefs and MLS sides Colmubus Crew and FC Dallas, was leading the race to save the Eagles from administration.

It now seems that the battle for control at Selhurst Park is two pronged - with Hunt's American consortium fighting it out with the group led by TAG chief executive and Palace fan Steve Parish.

Warnock admitted to having spoken with Parish and members of his group but thought that they saw themselves more as a last resort should no alternative be found.

"Well it would be fantastic," he replied when asked his thoughts on a potential takeover by Hunt. "But we've seen so many back pages of the local papers with people who are going to help save the club that you take it with a pinch of salt really. Until they show their money and show their intent I won't be getting too excited.

"I know a couple of the lads involved with the [Steve Parish] consortium and they are massive fans. They don't really want to buy the club, they just want to make sure the club keeps going.

"I think it's fantastic that we have fans like that, like Steve Parish. It's great what they want to do.

"I'm hoping this guy [Clark Hunt] who I read about today is interested. Simon [Jordan] did tell me there was a guy from abroad who was very interested, so I'm hoping this is the guy."

Warnock also hinted that he would still be in charge at the club this weekend, despite widespread rumours that he will leave his post after the Aston Villa FA Cup replay tomorrow night.

"Well I've already booked my hotel room for Doncaster [who Palace play on Saturday]," he said. "I've got a nice double room booked, I always have the best rooms wherever I stay, and I'm meeting my good friend up there on the Friday night."

“I wonder what the staff at the Croydon Advertiser make of this forum, I bet they must sit back and enjoy watching the pantomime comments unfold.

There is certainly never a dull moment with all the characters, both fictional and non-fictional that reside on here.

It has to be said that some of the postings do over step the mark, but many of them are very imaginative indeed, not to mention humerous.”

“Yes forum referee I'm the same as you about L0uis he is so bigoted, it's quite frustrating that he cannot see anyone else point of view and that their point of view might be valid and reasoned. I keep trying to imagine what type of person he is and one name springs to mind, Alf Garnett.”
