Weakened Purley are blown away
Division One
Purley 108 Walton on Thames 109-1
A weakened Purley side proved no match for Walton on Thames, who cruised to a nine-wicket victory.
The visitors went into the match without Lucas Mcdonald, wicketkeeper Stuart Glassington and captain Keith Medlycott.
In his absence Adnan Saleem led the side, notching his only success of the day when he won the toss and elected to bat on a typically slow and low pitch at Walton.
He was immediately made to rue his decision as James Miller picked up the wickets of openers James Harding and Sam Brandon with only 10 on the board.
Ahmad Raja (22) and Junaid Ahmed (16) repaired the damage, taking the score to 44 before the introduction of spin ruined any Purley hopes of posting a reasonable total.
Mark Bainbridge was the pick of the slow bowlers taking 3-12 from 16 overs, 11 of which were maidens. He was well supported by Giles Henderson (3-26) as Purley were skittled out for 108 in 45 overs.
Of the lower order only Ali Jaffery, Nav Chaudhry and Saleem made double figures.
Walton took only 20.3 overs to knock off the runs required with Bainbridge (46no) and Chris Harrison (35) adding 82 for the first wicket.
