Wells leave Old Mids rooted to the bottom
OLD Mids are left rooted to the bottom after conceding five tries to Tunbridge Wells.
The Old Boys did well enough early on and had two penalty opportunities, the second of which fly-half Dan Crouch converted to take a 3-0 lead.
Temi Okenla, the most consistent Mids player this season was running his elusive lines and he narrowly failed to catch a magnificent crossfield kick from Crouch for what would have been a certain score.
Home supporters were hopeful at this stage, but against the run of play Tunbridge opened their account with a fine try from wing Mike Doherty. Five minutes later they scored again through No 8 Tom Burns after a number of drives at the home line. Mids did well to defend until half time and turned over only 10-3 down.
Wells dominated the early part of the second half but the home side held out well under sustained pressure. Their stern defence was breached, however, when James Webb scored after a quickly taken tap penalty.
Two further tries from Rob Harrison and Sam Paton, one converted by Guy Lavery, then saw Wells to a comfortable win with a bonus point as Mids just did not perform.
