Shops in the Whitgift Centre have been affected by a power cut this morning (Monday February 22).

Around 20 to 30 per cent of retailers have been affected by the problem, which EDF engineers are understood to be looking into now.

The centre is still open though, with many of the shops affected still trying to serve customers.

Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins and Currys were all affected.

The council's HQ, Taberner House in Park Lane, Croydon, was hit by a power surged which has caused its phones and internet to cut out intermittently.

“My property had a powercut yesterday at 5pm - eventually at 3am this morning after 4 phone calls to EDF, the power came back on. Not at all impressed... and VERY cold!!”

“I tried to put a comment in and nothing happened. Here it goes again: I was in the Whitgift Centre lunchtime. Short of cash and none of the cash dispensers were working, so I had lunch in Cafe Giardino. When I came out, the power was back on and I managed to do all my shopping and cash some money.”

“We were hit by two power cuts this morning in our offices just off the Wellesley Road. They affected our phones and PCs.

I understand that parts of South Croydon were hit as well.”
