Daily Mail U18 Cup fourth round

Whitgift 22 John Fisher 10

WHITGIFT School 1st XV wreaked their revenge on John Fisher School with victory in Wednesday's high-stakes Daily Mail National U18 Cup match.

The South Croydon side had been beaten 15-13 by Fisher in October, having let a 13-3 lead slip in the last 10 minutes.

It remains Whitgift's only defeat of the season so far and they were determined not to suffer a repeat in rugby's premier schools' competition.

England U18 centre Elliot Daly got the hosts off to a flyer by scoring and converting the first two tries, separated by a lone penalty for the visitors.

But Fisher, who reached the semi-finals of the competition last year, hit back with a try of their own through livewire scrum half Jack Walsh, converted by Dave Priest.

Daly's international colleague and centre partner Marland Yarde put Whitgift back in the ascendancy by diving over to make it 19-10 at half-time, before Daly's second half penalty put the result beyond doubt.

Whitgift coach Chris Wilkins said: "It was a very tough game against a very tough team. We're pleased to squeeze through."
