WOODMANSTERNE were left to reflect on what might have been after they were forced to settle for a draw against Westfield.

Having lost the toss, a solid opening foundation partnership of 75 between Neepash Thacker (46) and Rob Hicks (26) gave the visitors a good start which was built on by Richard Knight (63) and Ollie Houghton (27). The pick of the bowlers for Saints was Phillips (5-84).

Woods' score of 245-9 off 45 overs was impressive but an earlier declaration would surely have enabled them to win the match.

Saints never threatened in reply and only John Price (47) showed any resistance for the hosts. Sham Ahmed (2-24) and Martin Corbett (2 – 28) were the pick of the bowlers.

Woodmansterne's third XI managed a winning draw at Staines & Laleham in the Surrey County Third XI League.

Having been asked to bat, Woods declared on 195-5 off 40 overs. Veteran Mickey Joyce (39) and Steve Scott (63) were the main contributors.

In reply Staines reached 154-7 off 39 overs, Graham Mullah making 42 and Neil Patel 3-41 and Jake Callaghan (2-21) taking the wickets.

An unbeaten stand of 87 from Rob Hicks helped Woodmansterne Trust XI to their first ever victory last Sunday as they overturned Horley Trust XI in the Surrey Trust League.

The team, a mixture of youth and senior cricketers, were playing only their second-ever game and were put into bat, Yaneet Patel making 26 and Hicks scoring 87 off 76 balls as Woods made 200-7.

A flurry of wickets fell in Horley's reply to Houghton (3-12), Whyte (2-20), Bull (1-25) and Wortley (3-5).

Excellent catching and wicket keeping, including a stunning take in the slips by Hicks, brought up victory for Woods by 78 runs.
