A 17-YEAR-OLD who stabbed another teenager in Croydon town centre attack has been electronically tagged.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was this week given a two-year referral order and will also be subject to three months of electronic monitoring, after he admitted stabbing an 18-year-old in North End.

The attack, which happened on October 15 last year, left the victim with a collapsed lung.

His attacker attempted to flee the scene but was quickly arrested inside a nearby department store.

He was brought to justice thanks to CCTV images, which clearly showed he was responsible for the stabbing, which followed a melee between a gang of youths.

The youth pleaded guilty to causing GBH with intent at a Croydon Crown Court hearing in January and was sentenced on Monday.

Detective Constable Andrew Miller, of Croydon CID, who investigated the case, said: "This could have so easily ended up in tragedy, but fortunately the victim was able to make a recovery.

"However, this type of incident is rare and police officers were on the scene within minutes to arrest the suspect."
