THE Ship of Fools has not only been named the borough's top pub, it was also crowned the overall winner in the Best Bar None competition, when compared to the town's bars and clubs.

More than 200 people attended an award ceremony in the Croydon Hilton hotel last week, when 32 of the best venues in the borough were rewarded for their high standards.

The Black Sheep Bar won the best late night venue award, with judges impressed with the club's innovative safety systems

They include using fingerprint ID scanners to confirm membership and implementing security checks in its toilets.
