SHOPS have gone red, white and blue as they gear up for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

An array of Jubilee goodies have gone on sale to help residents' street parties go off with a bang, including cupcakes, key rings and balloons - all featuring Her Majesty.

Amanda Dunstan, from the Positively Marvellous Temptations cafe, said she is gearing up for a busy weekend with the cafe, in Lower Addiscombe Road, baking nonstop in the lead-up to the four day weekend.

She said: "All of our cakes are baked fresh so we have had quite a few people coming in to find out exactly what we are doing.

"Everything in the shop is completely red, white and blue and we are having a really traditional day.

"We have special jubilee cupcakes on sale which are raspberry, blueberry and white chocolate and bigger cakes with shapes on them like teapots. We have been baking crowns non-stop.

"We will also have red, white and blue ice cream on sale."

Terry's Meat Market, in Surrey Street, is also catering for BBQs galore by offering special jubilee deals on its products, including four kilos of BBQ ribs for £20 and two kilos of sausages for £10.

Jo Ollington from the market said: "We are hoping it is going to be a busy time in the lead up."

99p Stores also say they have seen a sales bonanza with bargain hunters queuing to bag up some of their bargains.

Along with the traditional bunting, balloons and union jack cutlery, the stores have also stocked cupcake holders, framed pictures of the Queen and bags emblazoned with Ma'am's face. 99p Stores boss Hussein Lalan said: "The cupcake stands at 99p are a snip – and the public clearly seem to agree."

The Dog and Bull public house, in Surrey Street, is serving the four per cent beverage to get its regulars in the mood for royal shenanigans.

The pub will also be holding a host of events over the weekend including a king and queens fancy dress party on Saturday evening, and a special event on the Sunday.

Manager Andy Judge said: “Sunday is the big one for us. We have got a special Champagne event in Surrey Street because the road is being closed.

“We are teaming up with The Green Dragon pub and putting on a large English breakfast and a glass of champagne at 11am. Tickets are £15 and can still be bought from either pub.

“We are looking forward to what will hopefully be a busy weekend. We are decorated to the hilt with red, white and blue and will even be getting the BBQ out.”

And another pub has all hands on deck as they prepare for a busy week.

The Oval Tavern will have only a day to completely deck the pub out in red, white and blue – because they have a wedding booked in for the Thursday.

Landlord Graham Martin explained: “We have got flags outside but we will only have a day to get the pub ready inside.

“We will have to decorate for the wedding, then de-decorate then redecorate for the jubilee.

“We have got a load of events going on from a hip hop night on Friday to live bands over the rest of the weekend.”

And “patriotic soul” Phil Clarke, manager of the Wheatsheaf in Thornton Heath has also got onboard.

“We are going to watch the England game, then have a quiz then some karaoke so everyone can have a sing-a-long.

“I’m quite a patriotic soul so the flags are up. They’re always going up and coming down, I last had them up for the Six Nations rugby.”
