Last month this website's sister paper, the Croydon Advertiser, launched a campaign called "Embrace CHASE" to raise money for the CHASE hospice.

The hospice provides invaluable support to more than 200 Croydon children who are not expected to live to adulthood.

However, the hospice is facing a cash crisis which could result in potentially disastrous cuts to services.

Over the last five weeks the Advertiser has told the stories of some of the Croydon children CHASE supports.

Now, as part of the campaign, we are offering people the chance to bid for a toy which has become one of this year's most sought-after Christmas presents.

We have five limited-edition Aleksandr Orlov Meerkat toys, courtesy of the Harrods store in Knightsbridge.

The Meerkat toys - from the cult comparethemarket.com TV ads - will be given to the highest bidders.

Bids under the toy's recommended retail price of £19.95 will not be considered, however.

For a chance to secure a Meerkate, simply phone Christine Napthine at CHASE, on 01483 454 213, between 9am and 2pm tomorrow with your bid.

The five people who make the highest bids will be notified by CHASE that their bid has been successful.

*Terms and conditions

CHASE will do its best to acknowledge the five successful bidders within 48 hours.

Upon notification of a successful bid, purchasers are required to make payment to the CHASE in full.

In the event that no such payment has been received by Thursday December 24, CHASE reserves the right to offer the toy to an alternative bidder.

If bids received are of equal amounts, winners will be chosen at random.

All entrants must be over 16 years of age. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

There is no cash alternative prize. Entries received after the closing date will not be accepted.

All winning entrants will be notified via telephone and will be listed on the CHASE website.

The Meerkat toy will be released within one working day of CHASE receiving payment from the bidder.
