The van driver hit the post in the middle of a pelican crossing in Cherry Orchard Road just before 7pm.
Firefighters had to cut him free from the wreckage, and he was then taken by ambulance staff to Mayday Hospital with a head injury.
However, it is not thought his wounds are life threatening.
No other vehicles were involved.
